This descriptive, cross-sectional study was done in adult inpatient acute care units at a psychiatric hospital. 110 patients with suicide ideation completed questionnaire-based assessments of recent & lifetime history of intimate partner violence, family functioning, & alcohol use. Over 90% of suicidal inpatients reported domestic violence in their relationships in the past year. Poor family functioning predicted physical violence victimization in both male & female suicidal inpatients even after controlling for alcohol use & demographic characteristics. (60 refs.)
