The aim of this study was to determine whether any association exists between the genotype of cholecystokinin gene promoter regions & suicidal behaviour. 154 Japanese suicide victims & 328 control subjects were studied. Genotypes & allele frequencies of CCK -45C/T & -196G/A were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction followed by single-strand conformational polymorphism analysis on the genomic DNA. As association between CCK -196G/A polymorphism & suicidal behaviour was found among males; however, a significant association was not discovered in females. (28 refs.)
