This study investigates the factors associated with adolescent self-poisoning. Data on 324 adolescents, aged 12-18 years, referred for intentional self-poisoning to the Adolescent Medical Unit during 1990-1998 were evaluated. The results showed that self-poisoning attempts occur most frequently in depressed females at junior high & high school level, usually in the context of family dysfunction. (15 refs)
