Over 200 delegates from 8 countries gathered in Tromso, within the Arctic Circle, September 21-23, 2005, to discuss challenges & solutions to rural health issues. An outline of a virtual remote community, including some geographic & demographic information, together with 4 case studies of individual health problems faced to residents of the community was used to introduce delegates to specific problems. This approach to targeting discussion is valuable in rural health conferences where participants may be from diverse backgrounds & the issues discussed are multi-faceted. (4 refs)
