Using data from a nationwide project on young peope in Australia aimed at assessing suicidality in general health settings, the authors present a brief screening tool for suicidality. 2,851 patients (age 15-24) presenting to 247 Australian general practitioners between 1996-1998 were assessed. Results indicate that the measure has favourable reliability & validity characteristics. Results are also provided on cut-out points that may facilitate the tool’s use in clinical & research settings. (24 refs.)
