An alternative to current analyses of suicidal behaviour is discussed: suicidal acts should be assessed within a broader framework of coping styles & stress situations occurring over a period of time. One of the major implications for research is that suicidal acts will not be seen as unique, isolated events but instead can be understood within the larger context of related psychological knowledge.
