In this article David Shenfield discusses the ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) course & how it is designed to help caregivers become more confident & competent in dealing with people at risk of dying by suicide. He believes the ASIST course would improve the situation in some acute mental health units where nurses are too busy to assess & address needs appropriately. (LC)
