The effect of suicide on people is assessed with the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. The informants of 66 suicides were used as subjects for study & the informants of 66 living people were used as the control group. For each suicide & living person, 1 family member & 1 friend were interviewed. Data was collected in China in the summer of 2003. Results show the informants of the suicides more likely to experience depression than those in the control group. Further study is needed to investigate the high-risk group so as to recommend prevention measures. (LC) (42 refs)
