This report compares the results of a survey of health care professionals on attitudes towards & knowledge about euthanasia. Staff at two Washington state hospitals & medical & nursing students were surveyed in early 1968. The percentage of medical students expecting to hear requests for negative euthanasia was only slightly higher than that experienced by attending physicians. A similar percentage of students expected to hear requests for positive euthanasia. This proved to be about 4 times the percentage of physicians actually reporting such requests. A large percentage of medical & nursing students reacted favourably to having statements of authorization for negative euthanasia. 41% of practicing physicians indicated they would not practice negative euthanasia even with such authorization.
