This article reviews the American Justice Department’s decision to challenge the state of Oregon’s Death With Dignity Act. The Justice Department will argue before the Supreme Court that physicians who prescribe drugs to gravely ill patients for the purpose of ending their lives are violating federal laws. The quality of life of terminally ill patients is also discussed briefly. (13 refs.)
