This article discusses the characteristics of alcohol-related deaths among cases reviewed by the Chief CoronerÕs office in the Northwest Territories. Between 1999 & 2003, an average of 13 injury deaths involving alcohol occurred each year & the risk for alcohol-related injury deaths in males is almost 5 times higher than the risk for females. It is hoped through targeted educational messages on the responsible use of alcohol, legislation & alcohol control policies that the number of alcohol-related deaths will decline in the population.
