This article reviews some of the key research papers that have been published to provide background for the debate of whether selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors cause suicidal behaviour or if they have caused the decline in national youth suicide rates over the last few years. This article also discusses the FDA ruling that will place a Òblack boxÓ warning on all antidepressant medications. (LC) (16 refs)
