Deaths During or Following Police Contact: Statistics for England and Wales 2004/05

The objective of this report is to provide a definitive set of figures for England & Wales, which will both inform public debate & support more detailed work seeking to reduce deaths in the future. By providing a detailed overview of the deaths that occurred during 2004/05, the report aims to identify key areas where future policies & improvements in practice should be directed. The figures presented in this report show there has been an increase in the number of reported deaths during or following police contact in 2004/05. (LC)
