International literature on case-control & cohort studies of patients with schizophrenia or related conditions was identified through searching electronic databases & reference lists. The 29 studies where suicide was reported as an outcome were then systematically reviewed to identify risk factors for suicide patients with schizophrenia. Factors with evidence of increased risk of suicide were previous depressive disorders, previous suicide attempts, drug misuse, agitation or motor restlessness, fear of mental disintegration, poor adherence to treatment, & recent loss.
