This paper explores the experiences of the suicidal individual & discusses the effects of death by suicide on the family & family functioning. In addition, it examines how suicide can have important implications for family health, as a direct consequence of the grieving process. The role of the nurse will be explored from a supportive viewpoint, in relation to the survivors of suicide, rather than from a preventative perspective. (LC) (13 refs)
