ShneidmanÕs Psychological Pain Assessment Scale (PPAS) was explored for its validity & reliability. The test-retest reliability of the measures was quite modest for a 28-day interval. In a sample of undergraduate students, measures of anguish & hurt that takes hold of the mind were significantly associated with prior suicidality; yet, the PPAS had only a modest degree of validity. Further detailed study is needed before final conclusions can be made. (LC) (10 refs)
