The aim of this study, by using 7482 randomly chosen reindeer-herding Sami, was to investigate whether the changes over the last decades in reindeer-herding management have increased the risk of fatal, work-related accidents & death by suicide between 1961-2000. Information on fatal accidents & suicide was obtained & compared to the expected number of deaths. The male reindeer-herding Sami showed a significantly increased risk of death, however, there was no significant increased risk of death by suicide observed. (LC) (15 refs)
