Negative life events associated with deliberate self-harm were investigated in Kampala, Uganda by interviewing parents who were admitted at 3 general hospitals. The parents were interviewed by using a version of the European Parasuicide Study Interview Schedule I. The results show that time period & negative life events are associated with deliberate self-harm. In conclusion, life events appear to be important factors in deliberate self-harm in this cultural environment. (41 refs.)(CH)
