This letter to the editor discusses the role of the school in the recognition & management of suicidal behaviours among children. Feingold & Quilty state that school personnel are in a unique position to observe day-to-day behaviour & detect early warning signs that may be inapparent to family or physicians. A reply by Taras discusses how confidentiality laws may affect the ability of school personnel to be part of an interdisciplinary team & suggests how pediatricians might be able to work with schools to overcome any obstacles.
