The objective of this article is to see if sexual abuse is linked to suicide. Sexual abuse has increased remarkably since the 1950s. The reason for increased prevalence is discussed. There are clear links between sexual abuse in childhood & adult adjustment problems. The author suggests therapists, physicians, & helpline counsellors should ask about sexual assault in a personÁøs childhood, for therapy directed toward these childhood events can be a major factor in overcoming motivation to self-destructive behaviour.(CH)
