Suicide and Auto-Aggression, Depression, Hopelessness, Self-Communication – Results of a Prospective Study

A prospective study investigated possible differences in intensity of auto-aggression tendencies, depression, hopelessness & self-communication between patients who completed or attempted suicide in a 1-year follow-up, patients who attempted suicide in the period under observation, & a non-suicidal control group. In a final analysis, patients who completed or attempted suicide differed from patients of the same age & sex in the non-suicidal control group only in their greater self-aggression at the beginning of hospitalization.
