In this paper, the authors study the geographical suicide pattern in Hong Kong & examine the influence of socio-economic status on suicides. The geographical distributions of suicide at different age categories varied, albeit those of the youth & middle-aged seemed more alike. 4 etiological factors of suicides – financial status, environmental setting, self-independence, & homemakers (mainly housewives) – were identified. Possible changes to the suicide rates as a result of these factors are hypothesized. (17 refs)
