This document is an updated version of an earlier report (2001), which provides an overview of the epidemiology of suicide & self-inflicted injuries in Massachusetts for the years 1999 through 2000. Data on hospitalizations for & emergency department treatment of self-inflicted injuries are presented for Massachusetts residents aged 10 & older. Adolescent suicide behaviour is discussed within the context of updated results from the Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey. A public health approach to suicide prevention is emphasized.
