Prevalence of suicide ideation & attempts among Icelandic 9th & 10th graders were estimated in a study reaching 86.8% of the population in March 1992. According to the study 31.3% of these adolescents had at some time had thoughts about completing suicide, 15.7% had seriously considered suicide, 6.1% had attempted suicide, & 3.6% had attempted suicide during the current school year. Girls were found to have higher rates of prevalence than boys for all types of suicidal behaviour. (10 refs)
