This study considers patterns of Indigenous suicide in Far North Queensland at a community level; changing temporal patterns of suicide between identified communities; changing patterns of vulnerability over time within one community; the symbolic context & meanings of hanging as a method & its relation to Indigenous suicide; & the nature of responses to suicide within a community & their changes over time. It concludes with a discussion of the epidemiological, psychological, & public health implications of the findings. (262 refs)
