The objective of this study was to ascertain estimates of the prevalence, & associated risk factors for, suicidal ideation among community-dwelling older adults in Hong Kong. 6% of the study population was found to have ever experienced suicidal ideation. Poor physical health & poor mental health, especially depression, were predictors of ideation. Financial & relationship problems were significant risk factors as well. Those with active, as opposed to passive, coping styles fared better long-term. (48 refs)
