In order to increase physician awareness about the strong association between suicide attempts & panic disorder, the authors review the symptoms of panic disorder that are risk factors for an attempt, including the co-occurrence of substance abuse, depression, &/or aggressive behaviour. Various treatment options to reduce the risk for suicide in patients with panic disorder are reviewed, & sex differences are discussed. (21 refs)
