The author examines the epidemiology of homicide-suicide among the elderly. Incidence, patterns & clinical characteristics of homicide-suicide in older persons are discussed, & comparisons are undertaken between older married men who committed homicide-suicide & those who killed themselves only. Sub-types of homicide-suicide are identified, & recommendations for intervention & prevention are provided. (20 refs)
