This study sought to assess the effectiveness of a firearms risk management program that was developed & implemented among 46 civilly committed psychiatric inpatients at a behavioural health organization. The research sample comprised mainly men who had personality disorders & histories of substance abuse & who had expressed an intent to use a firearm to complete suicide. On discharge, none of the patients had accessed a firearm. (17 refs)
