The author reviews suicide statistics in the U.S. with emphasis on the number of completed suicides using firearms. Risk factors for violent suicide are identified & strategies for reducing the numbers of violent suicides are identified, including the limiting of access to lethal weapons. A model of firearms risk management proposed by M Sherman et al. is highlighted.
