In the present article, the author critically examines the current state of psychiatric nursing practice with regards to inpatient suicide, highlighting the perceived shortcomings and failures of current preventive efforts among psychiatric nurses. This is the first in a series of articles by this author addressing issues related to psychiatric inpatient suicide. (2 refs)
