The author responds to a study by P P Heppner et al., in which the authors presented the development and theoretical basis of the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI) & linked it to numerous validity & reliability studies, with findings in predicted directions. In the present article, the author expresses concerns about the PSI’s use as a target in counselling & its applicability to individuals of the cultural minority. The PSI’s applicability to suicidal clients is also discussed. (23 refs)
