Do Professionals Disempower Bereaved People? Grief and Psychosocial Intervention

Based on the results of her research with parents bereaved by the loss of a child from SIDS, suicide, or accident, the author attempts to show that in cases of traumatic bereavement, some patients may benefit from a psychiatric diagnoses such as complicated grief. Throughout, she explores questions regarding the nature, extent, & effect (empowerment versus disempowerment) of professional interventions in the lives of individuals experiencing psychosocial crises.
