This study evaluated clozapine’s effects on the rate of death due to suicide. All patients over a 4-year period who initiated treatment with clozapine while hospitalized within the Department of Veteran Affairs system were matched with a schizophrenic control group. No significant differences in rates of suicide or accidental death between the 2 groups were found. The authors conclude that there is no significant association between clozapine treatment & fewer deaths due to suicide. (36 refs)
