In an effort to replicate the earlier findings of G Turecki et al., concerning the genetic mediation of an increase in the density of serotonin receptor 2A (5-HTR2A) in the brains of suicide victims, the current authors investigated the T102C polymorphism in the 5-HTR2A gene in brain samples from 24 depressed suicide victims & 31 matched comparison subjects. While some of their findings were in agreement with the study by Turecki et al., the present authors were unable to support the suggestion that 5HTR2A binding is genetically determined by an allelic variation in the T102C polymorphism of the 5-HTR2A gene.
