Firearm Injury Surveillance: an Overview of Progress ad the Challenges Ahead

The authors provide an overview of the firearm-related injury surveillance activities that the United States Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has supported. They discuss the rationale for firearm-related injury surveillance systems, review CDC’s framework for firearm-related injury surveillance, describe the state & local cooperative agreements with CDC, & discuss some of the key problems & issues relevant to the surveillance of firearm-related injuries, including suicide.
