A case study is presented in which an elderly, suicidal individual was denied admission to a nursing home on the grounds that his persistent suicidal ideation might represent mental illness rather than a rational desire, & that the nursing home would be complicit in his suicide. The reponding authors provide ethical, legal, & nursing perspectives on the case.
