In this paper the author reviews the current knowledge of the relationship between completed suicide & mood disorders. The central issues include the risk of completed suicide among patients with depression or bipolar disorder, the extent to which suicide in mood disorders can be predicted, whether preventive measures have usually been undertaken in cases of suicide, & whether such are available.
