In this letter to the editor, the author suggests that the term “suicide survivor” is inappropriate for describing the family members & friends of suicide victims. Instead, he proposes the term “relict,” citing the definition given in The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. In response, the editor defends the term “suicide survivor” with reference to the common international use of the term “survivor,” & shows how the same Dictionary supports this usage.
