This document summarizes the key findings of a study by G Weitoft et al., regarding the health disadvantages of lone mothers in industrialized countries. The researchers found that children of lone parents have more than double the risk of psychiatric disease, suicide or attempted suicide, & alcohol-related disease; & more than 3 times the risk of drug-related disease compared with children of 2-parent households.
