Review of Religion and Mental Health: Prevention and the Enhancement of Psychosocial Functioning

This article presents the findings of a literature review exploring how religion relates to mental health. The paper is divided into 3 sections according to the domains of the research literature: 1) Psychological Adjustment – concerns inner personality dynamics & adaptive aspects of normal & mildly disturbed persons; 2) Social Conduct – concerns overt patterns of social pathology as manifested in conduct & interpersonal relationships (including suicide); & 3) Mental Illness – concerns moderate & severe disorders.
