This article comments on an article by L Ganzini examining the experience of voluntary refusal of food & fluids for patients & their caregivers. The author briefly describes examples of patients who have died from voluntary refusal of food & fluids & discusses the ethical implications of this type of death from the perspective of various physicians & nurses.
