Predictive Factors for Suicidal Ideation in Patients With Unresectable Lung Carcinoma: a 6-Month Follow-Up Study

The author follows up on an article by T Akechi et al which reported on predictive factors for suicidal ideation in patients with unresectable lung carcinoma, indicating that pain at baseline & the development of depression were significant predictive factors. The current author argues that these results support & are supported by previous data from the general medical literature, the chronic pain literature, & the cancer/pain literature. In response, T Akechi adds several findings regarding pain, depression, & suicidal ideation & suicide completion. (22 refs)
