The information in this book describes the National Institute for Clinical Excellence’s guideline on self-harm. It is intended for people aged 8 years & older who harmed themselves & for their families & care givers. It covers acts of self-harm that are an expression of personal distress. The guideline also specifically looks at the treatment of people who injure themselves (mostly by cutting) & people who poison themselves (mostly by overdosing). The guideline covers only the first 48 hours of care after someone has harmed him or herself.
