This report presents the results from secondary analysis of the data on suicide attempts from the ONS survey of psychiatric morbidity among prisoners in England & Wales, which showed that the proportions of male & female sentenced prisoners who had attempted suicide was less than in the remand population but still much higher than in the general population. Data are presented on the relationship between non-fatal suicidal behaviour & sociodemographic factors; penal, custodial & criminal characteristics; the presence of psychiatric disorders, life events & social support.
