Paracetamol is the most common substance used in the UK for intentional self-poisoning, & is implicated in 40% of cases. This study reports substantial reductions in the frequency of severe paracetamol hepatoxicity locally & nationally after legislative limitations on its sale. These reductions were not explained by changes in referral patterns or use of N-acetylcysteine. (5 refs)
