The Influence of Handgun Control Laws on Personal Violence (IN: Gun Control: Issues and Answers, by D Lester)

In this chapter, the author reviews the research studies that have been conducted to explore whether strict handgun control laws do have an impact on homicide & suicide rates. The limitations of the research are identified. The author finds a consistent relationship between suicides caused by the use of guns & gun control statutes. Implications for future research & policy issues are discussed. (18 refs)
