The authors conducted a time-series analysis of male & female suicide data to determine the impact of modernization on the suicide ratio for India for the years 1967 to 1997, & developed a modernization index composed of urbanization, female literacy, & female work participation rates. They found that there was no significant relationship between modernization & the male-female suicide ratio. (35 refs)
