This chapter defines the terms ‘crisis’ & ‘crisis state’ & provides examples of each. Typical crisis characteristics are presented, & the purpose of crisis intervention is discussed. 2 appendixes are also included. The first, “The Continuing Need for Training,” emphasizes the need for continued training for future crisis situations, particularly in light of the September 11th crisis. The second, “The Troubled State of Crisis Management,” highlights areas with current room for improvement within crisis management.
