Personality Traits and Suicidal Behavior and Ideation in Depressed Inpatients 50 Years of age and Older

Using data collected on 81 depressed patients 50 years of age & older, the authors attempted to determine the associations between the personality tratis that constitute the Five Factor Model of personality & measures of suicidal behavior & ideation. Results were showed that low Extraversion was associated with a lifetime history of attempted suicide, & high Neuroticism was associated with suicidal ideation. There was also an observed relationship between Openness to Experience & suicidal ideation. (69 refs)
